Director of Music and Fine Arts


Dr. Jeff R. McLelland, Director of Music and Fine Arts, came to Independent Presbyterian Church in August 2000 from Clinton, Mississippi where he was an Associate Professor of Music at Mississippi College, teaching organ, music history, and organ related courses. Additionally, he was organist at Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church in Madison, Mississippi. From 1995-1998 he was Director of Music and Organist at First Trinity Presbyterian Church in Laurel, Mississippi. Dr. McLelland has served the American Guild of Organists as Regional Councillor of the southeast United States and as Dean of the Jackson, Mississippi chapter. He is presently Sub-Dean of the Birmingham chapter. He won the regional level of the National Young Artist Competition of the American Guild of Organists in 1989 and 1991, and won second prize at the national level in Boston in 1990.

Academically, he has received degrees in organ performance from the University of Southern Mississippi, the Eastman School of Music, and the University of Alabama, where he studied with Paul Andersen, Russell Saunders, and Warren Hutton respectively.
