Prayer & Fellowship Groups

Independent Presbyterian Church

Intercessory Prayer Group

The group meets every Tuesday at 11:00 am in the chapel to pray for our members, their families and their friends. When prayers are completed for the day, the group send cards to members and friends in special or difficult circumstances. Anyone is welcome to come and to pray with this group. No invitation is necessary. Just come.

Centering Prayer Group

Centering Prayer is a method of prayer that focuses on deepening our relationship with the living Christ through interior silence. It facilitates a movement from more active modes of prayer into a receptive prayer of resting in God. Centering Prayer is meant to enrich and complement other forms of prayer, not to exclude or replace them. An IPC group meets weekly on Wednesday evenings at 5:00 pm in the Congregational Ministries department. Learn more about Centering Prayer.

Cancer Support Group

This support group meets the first Monday of the month at 12 pm in G 39. Anyone fighting cancer or providing support to someone battling the disease is invited. Louis Joseph, a counselor from St. Vincent's Hospital, leads the group. Contact Rev. Brian Lays for more information.

Grace Groups

Grace Groups are the foundation of IPC’s small group ministry. The groups meet in members’ home across the city, at the church and in downtown office buildings on different days of the week and at different times of the day. The groups meet for six weeks in the Fall and during the season of Lent. Besides growing in faith and the understanding of God’s word, the participants are drawn into closer community with other members of IPC. Learn more about Grace Groups.

The 4th Quarter

For the 60-ish and older members of IPC, the 4th Quarter is a group devoted to fun, fellowship, travel and good food! As Bear Bryant always said, “the 4th Quarter is ours!” Even the die-hard Auburn fan can agree that this is prime time for the joys of life. Contact Cindy Shaw (205.933.3696).

If you wish to make reservations for the 4th Tuesday monthly Lunch Bunch outing, contact Connie Logan (205.933.3694).

Members in the Middle

For adults in the middle years: 40s to 60s, this group meets for dinners in IPC member’s homes. More social outings are on the drawing board. For more information or to share creative ideas, contact Nancy Skinner (205.933.1830).

30's - 40's

This group of parents of young children hosts Parents' Night Out, the IPC Fall Festival and the spring picnic and Easter Egg Hunt. It is more than a working group; they also enjoy purely social time with other IPC parents of young children. To be part of the planning team or to find out more about scheduled events contact David Seamon (205.933.3730).

IPC Bridge Groups

The beginning bridge group meets weekly on Monday at 1:00 pm in room 309. The more experienced players meet weekly on Monday and Wednesday at 1:00 pm in room 305. Beginning bridge lessons are offered each year in January and February. This is drop-in, party bridge. A fun time. No substitutes required. Contact Connie Logan (205.933.3694).
