Who We Are
Youth ministry at Independent Presbyterian Church is about building relationships, meeting youth where they are, and, most of all, growing together as we grow in our relationships with God. We are an open group of 7th-12th graders with more than ten schools represented. We welcome any and all. We're glad for your visit to our site and invite you to join in the life and ministry of the youth at IPC.

The Acolyte program is open to all youth who have completed the 8th grade. Acolytes lead our church in worship. They bring the light of God into the sanctuary and also, at the end of the service, out into the world. Acolytes are present at almost every major religious event in a member of the congregation's life, including baptisms and weddings. Their role is a very important one to IPC, and their dignity, reverence, and precision, in all that they do in our services, glorifies God.
Note: Due to the Sanctuary construction, we will delay until late summer sending letters of invitation to serve as an Acolyte. We will know by then when we will be able to return to the Sanctuary and begin training the new Acolytes.

IPC Youth Attended Montreat Youth ConferenceJune 6-12, 2010
Eighteen members of the IPC Youth group, accompanied by Aly Butts and David Seamon, attended the week-long Youth Conference in Montreat, near Asheville, North Carolina. David Seamon (former IPC Youth Director who recently moved with his wife to Seattle) returned to chaperone the youth with Aly on this special retreat.
Study...Worship...Recreation Their conference was entitled; "In These Waters." "Called from the chaos, we gather in this sacred space, rooted in God's call and purpose. We seek to provide an authentic community of unconditional love where each individual gives and receives support, trust, and acceptance from others. We will encourage and empower youth to encounter God in, through, and with each other to ask questions, embrace challenges, and be commissioned to apply their faith relevantly in the world. The Montreat Youth Conferences are designed for high school students, entering freshmen through graduated seniors. A Youth Conference is a unique gathering of young people from all over the country for a week of study, worship, and recreation. Activities include morning energizers, music keynote, small group meetings where the conference theme is explored, afternoon recreation activities and evening worship." IPC Youth Group Leaders Aly Butts, Director of Youth Ministries Feel free to contact Director of Youth Ministries Aly Butts abutts@ipc-usa.org Assistant Youth Director Nate Sell began work November 17, 2010. Nate, a 2010 graduate of The University of the South at Sewanee, is working full-time with interim youth director Aly Butts, members of the IPC youth
group, and their parents. We're glad to have you with us, Nate! Nate, who recently completed thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail, is a lacrosse player, an Eagle Scout, and an avid cyclist. He also has extensive experience in outdoor leadership programs.
Nate has said that as he reflected on his own youth group experience he "realized that my youth group was the first example of true Christian community in my life. That group was there for me when I needed to see God's love most. We bonded over the events that were planned, but the significance did not lie in those events. It was in the community that developed from them, and the common foundation it created in the lives of my friends and myself that remain to this day." Nate is located in room 216 and can be reached at 933-3708 or at nsell@ipc-usa.org.
